| How it works | ||
| Screws and plates provide thermal bridges across insulation systems - a significant problem associated with mechanically attached insulation assemblies. Thermochec insulates screws and plates eliminating thermal bridging. The Thermochec system consists of factory laminated insulation boards with the top board having 6" diameter plugs removed for fastener placement. |
Once the fasteners are applied, the plugs are then adhered in place
with Thermochec adhesive effectively isolating the fastener and plate,
eliminating thermal bridging problems. Thermochec also provides protection
for the waterproof membrane from fastener back out and the sharp edges
of plates. |
|
| Why Thermochec is better | ||
In mechanically attached systems, the insulation stress plate and the steel fastener (both excellent conductors) become "heat sinks" through the system, conducting heat to the cold surface of the roof and exposing cold fasteners to the underside of the steel decking inside the building. The resulting cold spots inside the heated space, attract condensation and consequent corrosion of fasteners and decking, to say nothing of the actual heat loss. Considering Factory Mutual's increased density of fastener placement in corners and around the |
perimeter, this can be a significant problem. Fastener density will vary dependent on on parapet height, building height, exposure, topography, ground roughness, and wind isotach readings for the area. With this in mind, a system that eliminated thermal bridging for insulation securement, would be extremely beneficial to the thermal performance of the insulation assembly, and would further, effectively stop the condensation problem. |
